SAYLORSBURG, PA – September 2026, Paranormal investigator and jazz musician Eric Mintel and members of the Eric Mintel Investigates team spent two evenings inside the historic Lake House Hotel of Horror in spring 2026, examining reported unexplained activity throughout the building.
The investigation offered an unusual setting for the team.
Hotel of Horror operates two haunted attractions inside a historic Pocono hotel, where theatrical lighting, immersive soundscapes, detailed scenery, performers, and special effects are deliberately used to create scares. During the paranormal investigation, the team shut down electronic effects in an effort to separate the intentionally created environment from activity they believed warranted further investigation.
“I really appreciated that we turned off all electronics during the investigation and still captured incredible activity on the second floor, throughout the building, and especially the basement,” Mintel said.
Mintel said the building made an impression before the investigation was fully underway.
“When we walked in the Lake House at Hotel of Horror, I was immediately struck by the immense energy. Even as someone who doesn’t typically feel that kind of atmosphere right away, it hit me the moment I walked through the door.”
He also described the property as “a remarkably beautiful location.”
Among the areas that drew the team’s attention was the basement, where Mintel said investigators recorded unusually high magnetometer readings.
When later asked whether anything from the Hotel investigation remained difficult to explain, Mintel pointed to both the basement and a captured photograph.
“We can’t satisfactorily explain the energy in the basement or the photo that Dan captured,” Mintel said.
The original photographic print remains in the Hotel of Horror collection.
The investigation was featured in an episode of Eric Mintel Investigates, which follows Mintel and his team as they explore reports involving ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot, Dogman and other unexplained phenomena.
Hotel of Horror has also published a companion editorial, “Listening for the Unexplained: Eric Mintel Investigates the Hotel of Horror,” as part of its Through Our Doors series under the website’s From the Front Desk editorial category.
The feature looks beyond the investigation itself, exploring the connection between Mintel’s more than three-decade career as a jazz musician and his work investigating the unexplained.
Mintel credits a Dave Brubeck Quartet record discovered in his parents’ collection with beginning his path into jazz. His professional life has since developed along two seemingly different tracks- music and paranormal investigation- both shaped by close listening, curiosity and attention to unexpected patterns.
“At the end of the day, people are seeing something,” Mintel said of the unexplained experiences he continues to investigate.
