Before you check in

Before your journey brings you to the Hotel, a few practical questions often arrive. Here are the answers previous guests have sought before stepping through our doors.

How far is Hotel of Horror from destinations across North Jersey?

Hotel of Horror is centrally located in historic Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, in the Pocono Mountains. Whether you're traveling from Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Essex, Sussex, Union, or another North Jersey community, the Hotel of Horror is an easy autumn road trip into the Poconos. Most drives take approximately 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending on your starting point and traffic. Before long, busy highways give way to wooded roads, mountain air, and a historic hotel where Halloween has become a tradition.

For current route guidance, visit our Directions Page or select your preferred navigation service beneath the Travel Time Map above.

What if it rains?

Hotel of Horror and Altered Nightmares are OPEN RAIN OR SHINE! Being primarily indoor attractions with a mostly covered waitline- both an indoor queue line and an outdoor overflow queue line. Even the Box Office windows have an awning that rolls out when it's raining. We have got you covered for the most part- except for your walk to and from the car... and maybe not on the nights that the lines get too long- remember to visit early in the season or on slower nights like Sunday's.

What is the parking situation like?

We are still free onsite parking after all these years. It is a large gravel parking lot right on the same property next to the building. It is fairly lit and there are parking attendants to direct you to open spots.

What age is Hotel of Horror appropriate for?

We see guests from all age ranges, but we are designed for more of a teen and adult audience. From the young to the older- it's more a personality driven experience. We do have a general recommendation of 13+ years of age or older, however with that said we have seen much younger experience our attractions with jumps, screams, laughter, and cheers... We have also seen grown adults want to leave the experience early. If you have younger ones, we are not going to prevent you from bringing them through with you- you may be asked at the Box Office windows, "Are You Sure?"... Either way, for the younger crowd or the timid crown- our actors are trained to bring you out if you do not want to continue- but remember no refunds.

How long does it take to experience the attractions?

Attraction length experiences vary between attraction and guest. Your actual time in each of the attractions or even each room depends on the pace you take and how long you take to process each scare. On average it is estimated that you will have about 45 minutes to one hour of wicked entertainment inside the attractions. This estimate does not include attraction wait times. For the Hotel of Horror Haunted House it is estimated at 30-35 minutes, and Altered Nightmares Haunted House is estimated at 20-25 minutes. On peak October evenings, our wait lines sometimes get long- this will extend your time at our location. Our indoor queue line will help shield you from the elements and has televised entertainment as well as roaming characters.

Should I purchase tickets in advance?

We do have that option and it is a very popular choice. But tickets are also available at The Box Office windows as well. If you choose to purchase your tickets at the door, please be prepared with cash, or use the ATM on site. Online tickets are for the convenience of credit card usage. If you need to purchase with a card- just go ahead and do it ahead of time...
